Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Trek Khair Trekking

Testimonial

Peak Endeavour’s Nepal provides an excellent overall experience from the time of arrival in Nepal until you leave on your flight home. Norbu Lama, the owner of Peak Endeavour’s is a very knowledgeable guide. He knows much about the people, religion and regions of Nepalese trekking. Moreover he provided complete sightseeing and shopping in the Kathmandu area during our stay. His staff is courteous, honest and provides professional service and excellent security throughout the trek. The kitchen staff and chief cook understand the health concerns of weak western stomachs and did their best to keep us healthy. No one had health issues throughout our 20 day trek. The pace of the trek is well suited to achieve the altitude goals of the highest pass. Acute Mountain sickness was a non-issue as we progressed at a pace that provided adequate time to adapt to the altitude. The camping outfit provided by Peak Endeavour’s used high quality sleeping and eating tents. We felt like royalty. The trek itself was the best ever. Much diversity of culture, terrain, and ecologies. In summary, we would have no hesitation in any regard to use Peak Endeavour’s Nepal again in the future and greatly enjoyed our trip in 2010. We will be back!

Trip Overview Khair Trek (Best of Annapurna / Dhaulagiri)

The trail traversed on this trip pioneers new routes away from the busy teahouse trails and offers some of the best walking in the Annapurnas. It includes the Pokhara Valley with its panoramic views of Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail) and the Annapurna massif, picturesque Gurung villages of the hills and the rhododendron forested ridge lines that provide stunning vantage points for views of the highest peaks. The views from Kopra Ridge are spectacular, taking you close to the peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri with the unique view of the deepest gorge in the world (7000m) and the opportunity to visit the sacred lake of Khair high up near the base of Annapurna. We travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara by bus, a 200km journey that takes us about 7 hrs. There will be a number of stops on the way with ample time to take photographs etc. A lunch stop is made along the way and a buffed lunch will be provided. The Khair Trek will appeal to those trekkers who wish to experience the diversity of Nepal with the varied village life of diverse ethnic groups, walking through lush forests and the beauty of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. We achieve these highlights while staying predominantly at low altitudes where the temperature remains moderate but with some higher altitude experience. The trek pace is relaxed to ensure that the trek is comfortably achievable by trekkers of average fitness for their age, but as you would expect, there are some steep uphill sections and narrow tracks. The optional day's trek to Lake Khair is a long and strenuous one with the possibility of having to cross over frozen mountain rivers. Those who take this side trip, however, have found it to be most rewarding both for its views and spirituality.
